FAQ

Whilst it is impossible to answer all your questions about garage doors, we have covered a selection of the most commonly asked questions below. However, if your query is not covered here, please don't hesitate to contact us for friendly and accurate advice.

1. How much does the installation of a garage door cost?

It is very difficult to give an accurate price as many different components need to be considered. The cost of a garage door is determined by the following factors - Door size & type    Style & color - Windows or not - Door Frame type : Wood, Steel, Concrete,. etc - Whether you want automation. As a rough guide, a simple installation of a 7066 ribbed garage door including frame and 10 year guarantee starts at £499.99 inc VAT, however a bespoke door can go all the way up to £10000.

2. Can I match the style and color of my new windows and front door?

We have a huge range of designs and colors and can nearly always match new or existing windows and doors.

3. I have a one-piece door now. Can I replace it with a sectional or roller door?

Our experienced technicians and fitters can install a sectional door in virtually any opening where a single piece door has been. Roller doors are also widely usable but they do require at least 300mm (1 foot) of head room for the roller housing. If in doubt call us for a free, no-obligation home visit where we will talk through all the options with you to achieve the best possible solution for your individual requirements.

4. Why should I choose an insulated door if my garage is not insulated?

A garage door opening is very large. Insulated doors will help to reduce the transfer of heat or cold air into your garage. This is important for a number of reasons:

  • If your garage is attached to your home, air in the garage can travel through the doorway to your living area.
  • If you use your garage as a workshop, your comfort will be a top priority.
  • If your garage is below another room in your home, air can travel through the ceiling of the garage into the floor of the room above. An insulated door will keep temperatures in the garage fairly stable to reduce the temperature fluctuation in the room above.
  • An insulated door is generally quieter and has a more attractive interior than a non-insulated door

5. What is the difference between canopy and retractable door gear?

The main difference between the different types of gear is that canopy doors use vertical tracks, fixed to the side frame, and a system of cables and an overhead spring to move the door up and down, whereas retractable doors use horizontal tracks, that go back into the garage, and cantilever arms attached to side springs to move the door. Canopy door gear is the most widely used, but retractable gear is lower maintenance and best suited to motorising your single piece door. Canopy doors can still be motorised but it is more costly and involves the use of a bow-arm converter.
