  • Most common type of door
  • Single panel door, usually with spring running above door
    opening
  • Available in a wide range of styles and colours
  • Typically made of steel or timber

    Pros

  • Most cost-effective garage door style
  • Easiest to install
  • Maximises width of garage opening compared to retractable option
  • Cons

  • ‘Kicks out’ when opening
  • Difficult to motorise

  • Door type used when motorising a single panel door or with a width over 8’
  • Available in a wide range of styles and colours
  • Typically made of steel or timber

    Pros

  • Most cost-effective option for motorisation
  • Low maintenance
  • Best option for very low headroom
  • Cons

  • ‘Kicks out’ when opening
  • Requires depth in the garage for tracks
  • Narrows width of opening – however drive through gear is available

  • Cons

  • More expensive than the single panel option
  • Requires depth in the garage for tracks


    Overview

  • A popular option for those who want an insulated or motorised door but without much space inside
    the garage
  • Typically constructed of aluminium
  • All mechanical parts are enclosed in protected housing

    Pros

  • Ideal when there is little or no depth to a garage
  • Insulated rollers are effective at weather-proofing a garage
  • No ‘kick-out’ – park right up to the garage door
  • Cons

  • Requires at least 300mm headroom within garage
  • Not easy to use manually
  • Not available in different panel designs

  • A very traditional type of door
  • Typically constructed of steel or timber
  • Door configuration available in standard 50/50 format or 1/3-2/3

    Pros

  • Convenient when there is no space inside garage
  • Low maintenance – fewer moving parts/cables than other door types
  • Cons

  • Large ‘kick-out’ effect – requires large, level area in front to open
