Automatic garage door not working?

If you have an automatic garage door, but it has stopped working, there are several steps you should take before you call your garage door supplier or repairer. Often the problem is extremely simple to solve. Here are our top tips:

1. Check the area below the garage door to ensure that there is no small obstruction that you haven't previously noticed. This could be activating the sensors, which will stop the door from closing.

2. If you are trying to open or close the garage door with your remote control, try the wall switch. If it works, the problem will most likely be flat batteries in your remote control. If it still doesn't work with new batteries, try reprogramming the remote control, by using the codes provided by the manufacturer.

3. If the garage door doesn't work with either the remote control or the wall switch, there may be a disruption to the power supply. Make sure the power unit is plugged in, and check the fuse or circuit breaker.

4. Sometimes, other devices may be interfering with the signal. If you have any alarm systems, surge protectors or sprinklers, disconnect them one by one and test the garage door.

5. If the garage door does not open completely, or, if the motor continues running after the door has opened, there may be a problem with the open limit switch on the power unit. Try adjusting it until it works correctly.

6. If the garage door does not close completely, or if it reverses immediately after hitting the floor, there may be a problem with the close limit switch on the power unit. As above, try adjusting the limit until it works correctly.

If, after all of the above, the automatic garage door is still faulty, it's time to contact your garage door supplier.
